The daytime attic athlete

If something's scampering across your ceiling at 10 in the morning, it's almost certainly a gray squirrel. Orlando's oak canopy is squirrel paradise, and the jump from a branch to your roof is nothing for them. Once on the roof, they chew — soffits, fascia, attic vents, roofline gaps. A squirrel can gnaw through wood and thin aluminum in a single determined session.

The chewing is the emergency

Squirrels don't chew out of spite; their teeth grow continuously and they must gnaw. Unfortunately, electrical wiring counts as something to gnaw. Chewed wiring in an attic is a fire risk, and it's the reason squirrel jobs get priority — every week of squirrel occupancy is another week of gnawing on things that shouldn't be gnawed. They also shred insulation for nesting and chew through ductwork.

One-way doors: the humane standard

Our main method is the one-way door: fitted over the entry, it lets squirrels leave on their morning foraging run but not get back in. No traps to check, no stress, no separation — the squirrel simply relocates itself. Every other entry gets sealed first so there's exactly one way out. After a few quiet days, the door comes off and the last hole is sealed permanently.

Baby season changes the timing

Gray squirrels have two baby seasons in Florida, roughly late winter and late summer. One-way doors can't be used when flightless babies are in the nest — they'd starve inside. We check for young first and time the work accordingly. Hear noises but not sure it's squirrels? Compare here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can't I just seal the hole myself?

Only if you're certain the attic is empty. Sealing a squirrel inside means it chews through your ceiling into the house within hours — squirrels don't wait politely. We verify the attic is clear before the final seal.

How do squirrels get on my roof in the first place?

Almost always via overhanging branches — they jump from tree to roof effortlessly. Trimming branches back 8–10 feet from the roofline is the best long-term prevention after the entries are sealed.

Do you use traps or poison for squirrels?

Neither as the primary method. One-way doors are more humane and more effective for squirrels. We never use poison for any wildlife — it kills indiscriminately and leaves bodies in walls.

Will trimming my trees really help?

Enormously. The branch-to-roof jump is how 90% of squirrel entries start. No branch access plus sealed entries equals no more squirrels — it's the closest thing to a permanent fix.
